“I have terrible handwriting.
I now say it's a learning
disability... but a nun who
was a very troubled woman
hit me over the fingers with
a ruler because my writing
was so bad. ” said Andrew
Greeley. I feel you wish to be
spared from that whipping
and try improving your
handwriting skills. Hand
writing is a presentation and
your presentation should be
impressive. If you scribble
something on a sheet of
paper that is illegible then
your reader would not go
through it even if your
content is better than others.
I used to have a bad
handwriting but I realized it
quite early in life. When I
determined to improve my
handwriting, at first, I
brought exercise books on
cursive writing, to improve
my handwriting. The first
line was written and the rest
of the ruled page was left for
me to practice. Imitating the
writing this way is simple
and the finest way to give a
proper facet to your writing.
Even you can try practicing
on an exercise book but
keep in mind a few tips.
• Initially it is prudent to
practice writing individual
letters and that too one
letter per day, including the
improvements that will help
you'reach your target.
Concentrate on overall letter
formation, the slant of each
letter, and beginning and
ending strokes. You must
practice writing capital
letters as well as small
letters.
•When your feel
comfortable with the letters
then start working on words.
Pay attention to character
spacing, the way your letters
flow from one into the next,
and the spacing you place
between words. Finally, you
can start writing sentences.
• Start your writing process
with a pencil then switch
over to an ink pen or a gel
pen but don ’t use ball point
pens until you develop a
style and pace.
• Remember not to grip your
writing tool hard. Hold the
tool as light as it can help to
write legibly.
• In the primary stages use
ruled sheets or else your
mind would be focused
towards maintaining a page
format and your writing
would go haywire
• Once you get into the mode
of writing in a particular
style, then develop a test
sentence for yourself and
write it at the top of your
practice page at the
beginning of each new
week to help you measure
your progress.
• When practicing, keep in
mind that you must maintain
the correct posture. Don ’t
lean on your notebook. Also
keep in mind that your
notebook should be either
straight or it can have a
negligible tilt.
It is said that practice makes
a man perfect, this implies
even to your handwriting. So
keep writing and practicing.
Even if you are in hurry, keep
track of your writing style.
